The 2023 OCP Global Summit was a massive success, our biggest and best yet, with 4,401 people attending the event in San Jose, CA.! Thank you to our amazing Members, Sponsors, Partners, Staff and Community!

At the 2023 Global Summit, industry leaders, researchers and pioneers from the open community engaged in dynamic dialogues, enlightening workshops, and interactive engineering sessions designed to expand our understanding of the progress that our Projects have made as well as the challenges and road ahead. Participants explored emerging trends, tackled complex challenges and discovered new opportunities to drive global innovation. Through this collaborative spirit, we aim to accelerate the development of efficient, scalable, and sustainable open compute solutions that power the future of technology.

Our theme this year was Scaling Innovation through Collaboration….. You can see a full description here.

All the sessions from 2023 OCP Global Summit were recorded. The videos & slides from all the presentations will be posted HERE in the coming weeks.

Tracks, sessions and workshops

The Community leadership arranged 17 dynamic content tracks, with an impressive 469 speakers across 346 sessions. The Experience Center had nine stations, and we hosted several co-located events with our partners including: SONiC Workshop, DENT Mini Summit, CXL Forum, Samsung Memory Tech Day.

We hosted our first ever AI-Edge Hackathon in partnership with ETSI and LF. You can see more about that here.

Announcements

As with every OCP Summit, there were quite a few exciting announcements, including the OCP S.A.F.E. program, the MX Alliance whose goal is creating and standardizing next-generation 6- and 4-bit data types for AI training and inferencing, the OCP collaboration with UEC and more! You can always check the latest OCP announcements on the blog section of our website and our social media pages.

Future Technologies Symposium

The 2023 OCP Future Technologies Symposium was held on October 18, Day 2 of the OCP Global Summit, and gathered people from academia, research, industry and startups to showcase the future technologies of OCP. The OCP Future Technologies Symposium (FTS) spotlights promising technologies in the IT Ecosystem and brings to the OCP Community a forward-looking funnel of technologies which focus on solving future problems facing the industry, and accelerate productization through partnerships and open source R&D. This year’s program included more than 100 speakers: invited keynotes, author presentations in five technological tracks (AI/HPC, Network, Data Center Sustainability,  Network, Quantum, Power and Servers) and four Future Technologies Initiative (FTI) breakout sessions (AI Hardware-Software codesign, Cloud Service Model, Data Centric Computing and In-server Reach Optical Interconnects).

The newest addition this year was FTS Technology Demonstrations with 10 teams bringing interactive, hands-on experiences of novel technologies as live simulations, prototypes and near to market solutions.

The Best FTS Paper and the $10,000 prize was awarded to Matthew Williams from Cerio (formerly Rockport Networks), who presented a paper in the AI/HPC track, entitled “The Future of AI/ML Innovation is Row-Scale Disaggregation”. It introduces and describes a new distributed system architecture for the dynamic compute systems that will train future AI/ML models and provide large-scale inference for organizations worldwide.
