Community Groups

The Open Compute Project has established Regional Project Communities across the globe, each serving as a local hub for collaboration and innovation in open source hardware and software. Communities in the Asia-Pacific, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan share the common goal of promoting and developing OCP solutions tailored to their regional needs. While they operate independently, every community adheres to OCP's overarching tenets and project charters, ensuring consistency and interoperability with the global project. Each provides a platform for local adopters, developers, and enthusiasts to connect, share knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of open hardware, driving efficiency and accessibility in data center technologies.

About This Project

The Open Compute Project (OCP) has established Regional Project Communities across the globe, each serving as a hub for collaboration and innovation in open source hardware and software.

These communities, located in regions including the Asia-Pacific, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, share the common goal of promoting and developing OCP solutions tailored to their specific regional needs.

Scope

While they operate independently, these communities adhere to OCP’s overarching tenets and project charters, ensuring consistency and interoperability.

They provide a platform for local adopters, developers, and enthusiasts to connect, share knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of open hardware, ultimately driving efficiency and accessibility in data center technologies.

Sub-Projects

Asia Pacific

The OCP APAC Regional Project Community provides a forum for collaboration on Open Compute Project work at a regional level, with priorities and requirements focused on the Asia-Pacific region. OCP members and the wider community are encouraged to meet locally and discuss initiatives that are applicable to APAC, bringing regional perspectives on data center infrastructure back to the global OCP projects. The community's scope covers OCP community events and contributions from an APAC perspective, including regional gatherings and the OCP APAC Summit. Anyone working with open hardware in the region is welcome to join the community and take part in its activities and discussions.

Europe

The OCP EMEA Regional Project Community discusses OCP Technology and Vertical Projects as they apply across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, meeting in English on European time zones. Because OCP is already well established among US hyperscalers, the community focuses on the European data centre market, supporting OCP adoption in regular data centres and helping ordinary clients shift to OCP gear. Topics include which OCP components are available in Europe, who can provide local support, where deployed gear can be shown to customers, introductions to OCP workstreams, and obstacles to adoption.

Japan

The OCP Japan Regional Project Community discusses OCP Projects as they apply across Japan, meeting in Japanese on local time zones and adapting requirements to suit the region. As long as its work stays in line with the OCP Tenets and respective Project Charters, the community has wide flexibility to collaborate on OCP requirements and deliver unique solutions for local adopters. The page also carries Japanese-language news and updates on OCP for the Japanese ecosystem.

Korea

The OCP Korea Regional Project Community discusses OCP Technology and Vertical Projects as they apply across Korea, meeting in Korean on local time zones and adapting requirements to suit the region. As long as its work stays in line with the OCP Tenets and respective Project Charters, the community has wide flexibility to collaborate on OCP requirements and deliver unique solutions for local adopters. Members can follow news and discussion through the OCP Korea Facebook page.

People’s Republic of China

The OCP China Mainland Regional Project Community discusses OCP Technology and Vertical Projects as they apply across the region, meeting in Mandarin on local Chinese time zones and adapting requirements to suit regional needs. As long as its work stays in line with the OCP Tenets and respective Project Charters, the community has wide flexibility to collaborate on OCP requirements and deliver unique solutions for local adopters. Active workstreams include Hardware Fault Management (China), Cloud Firmware (China), and GW-Scale Open AIDC, with wiki pages for the first two. The community also curates Chinese-language videos introducing OCP, and welcomes regional members and adopters to engage through its workstreams.

Taiwan

The OCP Taiwan Regional Project Community discusses OCP Technology and Vertical Projects as they apply across Taiwan, serving as the feedback loop between the Taiwanese supply chain and global data center innovators. It leverages the region’s status as a global hardware powerhouse to accelerate open standards across three pillars. Semiconductor Innovation fosters an Open Chiplet Economy through Taiwan’s foundry and advanced-packaging leadership. DC IT Infrastructure drives design and high-volume manufacturing of OCP-standard servers, storage, and networking for Open Systems for AI. DC Physical Infrastructure advances high-efficiency Open Data Center designs for extreme-density AI workloads.

Women in OCP

Women in OCP is an Open Compute Project community group that welcomes everyone to connect with colleagues and hear from women in the industry. It aims to create a tech industry environment where women are equally represented, lead in innovation and sustainability, and foster a diverse and inclusive ecosystem. It focuses on two areas: leadership, promoting gender diversity in OCP leadership roles and pathways for women into them; and building a supportive community, with platforms for women to share experiences, resources, and opportunities and to raise the visibility of women leaders and role models.
