  1. Hardware Management

The OCP Hardware Management Project defines a small, stable set of tools for remotely managing machines at scale. Its specification incorporates existing tools and best practices for remote machine management. The project’s activities fall in five areas: manageability interface and capabilities, the baseboard management controller, rack management firmware, the management controller module, and hardware fault management.

  2. Data Center Facility

The Data Center Facility Project develops open, collaborative designs that meet the ever-increasing demands of IT hardware while enhancing efficiency and sustainability. Its scope covers everything from power and cooling solutions to facility operations, geared toward modular, scalable, and environmentally friendly data center environments. Work focuses on five functional areas: data center facility power, facility cooling, IT space layout and design, facility monitoring and control, and facility operations.

  3. AI Computing Continuum

The OCP AI Computing Continuum (AICC) Project accelerates adoption of scalable, interoperable, and sustainable AI systems beyond hyperscale data centers. It defines open, modular infrastructure standards for hyperscale-adjacent environments such as regional colocation, enterprise on-premises sites, telco points of presence, and industrial sites, addressing real-world limits on power, thermal capacity, and physical footprint. Its specifications span five domains: AI Open Server Architectures, AI Open Solution Architectures, AI Building Block Architectures, Autonomous AI Wireless Access, and Connectivity. The project was launched in collaboration with the IOWN Global Forum.

  4. Women in OCP

Women in OCP is an Open Compute Project community group that welcomes everyone to connect with colleagues and hear from women in the industry. It aims to create a tech industry environment where women are equally represented, lead in innovation and sustainability, and foster a diverse and inclusive ecosystem. It focuses on two areas: leadership, promoting gender diversity in OCP leadership roles and pathways for women into them; and building a supportive community, with platforms for women to share experiences, resources, and opportunities and to raise the visibility of women leaders and role models.

  5. Future Technologies Initiative

The OCP Future Technologies Initiative (FTI) is a formal effort within the Foundation to build a future-focused Community within OCP, serving as a forward-looking funnel for ideas and technologies two-to-five years out. FTI brings academia, industry researchers, startups, venture capital, and analyst firms into OCP to solve future industry challenges and accelerate productization. Its expert-led workstreams build pipelines of talent on specific problems and ultimately hand promising efforts off to OCP Projects, with the goal of commercialization.

  6. Sustainability

The OCP Sustainability Project works to enable the data center industry’s progress toward net-carbon-zero goals by addressing the challenges and opportunities within the OCP ecosystem. It led the introduction of Sustainability as OCP’s fifth tenet and offers an open framework and resources for vendors, suppliers, and end users to deploy best practices that promote reusability and circularity. Its goals are to reimagine system and component design for circularity, deliver a roadmap for standardized calculation, measurement, and disclosure of metrics across the life cycle, publish guidelines on supply-side resource consumption, and develop OCP-certified design and sourcing practices.

  7. Security

The OCP Security Project creates designs and specifications that enable software security for all IT gear, working in collaboration with the wider Open Compute community. It provides a common security foundation for hardware designed in other OCP projects, removing redundant effort and delivering standard, flexible hardware and software security implementations that work across different types of equipment. The project standardizes the components required for hardware-based software security, builds on existing and emerging standards, and aims to raise security across the cloud computing industry through open standards. Focus areas include boot code integrity, open-source security firmware, secure boot and recovery, firmware provisioning, ownership transfer, and protected updates to mutable storage.

  9. Community Groups

The Open Compute Project has established Regional Project Communities across the globe, each serving as a local hub for collaboration and innovation in open source hardware and software. Communities in the Asia-Pacific, China, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan share the common goal of promoting and developing OCP solutions tailored to their regional needs. While they operate independently, every community adheres to OCP's overarching tenets and project charters, ensuring consistency and interoperability with the global project. Each provides a platform for local adopters, developers, and enthusiasts to connect, share knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of open hardware, driving efficiency and accessibility in data center technologies.
