Sub-Projects

Academia Research

Academia Research is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. It tracks current academic systems research in composable, heterogeneous, and disaggregated memory, such as CXL, and shares findings with CMS participants. The workstream invites key researchers to present to the CMS community and fosters their participation in OCP events such as the Global Summit. It aims to provide industry feedback and guidance to researchers and, in the future, to fund research in areas of interest to CMS, and it curates lists of CMS-relevant papers from top conferences.

AI & HPC Systems and Fabric

AI & HPC Systems and Fabric is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. The CMS Sub-Project grew out of the Future Technologies Initiative’s Software Defined Memory workstream. Details about the workstream’s mission, scope, deliverables, and ways to get involved will be added in the near future.

Composability Fabric Manager Software

Composability Fabric Manager (CFM) Software is a team within the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. It explores standards-based expansion of features for future Composable Memory Appliance (CMA) architectures. The initial CMA/CFM contribution included the basic provisioning and composition components of the CFM, including Redfish composition services, the Redfish API, and a CLI and GUI. The team’s charter is to optimize these components and APIs through the open-source community while adding container memory provisioning, dynamic capacity controls, and performance and quality-of-service management. Code is published on GitHub.

Composable Memory Appliance Hardware

Composable Memory Appliance (CMA) Hardware is a team within the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. Building on the initial CMA CLA contribution, it explores and standardizes next-generation enhancements that reduce cost, improve latency and bandwidth, and increase the number of clustered nodes that can connect to a pooled memory appliance. Its charter is a TCO-optimized answer to the memory-wall and stranded-resource challenge: CXL pooled memory with non-blocking bandwidth and round-trip latency under 400 ns, while improving sustainability through DDR4 recycling and lower power per GB.

Composable Workloads

Composable Workloads is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. The CMS Sub-Project grew out of the Future Technologies Initiative’s Software Defined Memory workstream. Details about the workstream’s mission, scope, deliverables, and ways to get involved will be added in the near future.

Computational Programming

Computational Programming is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. The CMS Sub-Project grew out of the Future Technologies Initiative’s Software Defined Memory workstream. Details about the workstream’s mission, scope, deliverables, and ways to get involved will be added in the near future.

DC / Memory Fabric Orchestration

DC & Memory Fabric Orchestration is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. The CMS Sub-Project grew out of the Future Technologies Initiative’s Software Defined Memory workstream. Details about the workstream’s mission, scope, deliverables, and ways to get involved will be added in the near future.

Extended Connectivity Requirements

Extended Connectivity Requirements is a Workstream under the Composable Memory System (CMS) Sub-Project of the OCP Server Project. It documents industry usage-model scenarios and requirements for rack-level disaggregated NVMe and/or CXL interconnected compute, acceleration, memory, and storage modules using PCIe Gen5 and Gen6 external Direct Attached (DAC), Active Electrical (AEC), and Active Optical (AOC) cables. The workstream does not explore specific implementation solutions; a future industry standards committee is expected to turn its requirements into a complete standard cabling specification.
