Optics Reliability

The Optics Reliability Workstream of the OCP Networking Project is defining an open, interoperable standard for optical transceivers and hosts to coordinate out-of-band communication that shares L1 telemetry, computes a common link-health metric, and enables configurable, automated responses to prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps. Building on OCP’s vendor-neutral specifications and its Open Systems for AI Strategic Initiative, it brings switch, NIC, and transceiver vendors together with operators on a single operational model that scales from enterprise to hyperscale. The workstream publishes a baseline specification, a working draft, and its charter.

About This Workstream

Welcome to the OCP Networking Project’s Optics Reliability Workstream. The workstream seeks to define an open, interoperable standard for optical transceivers and hosts to coordinate out-of-band communication that shares L1 telemetry, computes a common link-health metric, and enables configurable, automated responses to prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps.

Building on OCP’s track record of practical, vendor-neutral specifications and its Strategic Initiative on Open Systems for AI, this workstream provides the forum to converge switch, NIC, and transceiver vendors — and operators — on a single operational model that scales from enterprise to hyperscale.

As usual at OCP, this workstream is open to the public and we welcome all those who would like to be involved.

OCP Networking Project

Scope

The workstream is defining an open, interoperable standard for optical transceivers and hosts covering:

OUT-OF-BAND COMMUNICATION — transceiver-to-host coordination that shares L1 telemetry
LINK-HEALTH METRIC — a common metric computed from shared telemetry
AUTOMATED RESPONSES — configurable actions to prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps

Welcome to the OCP Networking Project’s workstream Optics Reliability

The Optics Reliability workstream will seek to define an open, interoperable standard for optical transceivers and hosts to coordinate out-of-band communication that shares L1 telemetry, computes a common link-health metric, and enables configurable, automated responses to prevent, localize, and remediate link flaps. Building on OCP’s track record of practical, vendor-neutral specifications and its Strategic Initiative on Open Systems for AI, this workstream provides the forum to converge switch, NIC, and transceiver vendors—and operators—on a single operational model that scales from enterprise to hyperscale.

As usual at OCP, this workstream is open to the public and we want to welcome all those who would like to be involved.
