OpenRMC-DM

The OpenRMC-DM Sub-Project, under the direction of the OCP Hardware Management Project Group, creates designs and specifications that enable interoperable manageability for OCP rack managers. Its deliverables include a specification for the interface the rack manager exposes to the rest of the data center, requirements for the interface between the rack manager and on-platform components, and an open-source implementation of the rack manager controller software. The sub-project specifies the northbound and southbound interfaces of the rack management controller and oversees OCP's Rack-Manager source repository. Its Device Manager incubation adds a unified way to identify and query devices, monitor early warning signs, and manage software and firmware.

About This Sub-Project

The OpenRMC-DM Sub-Project is under the direction of the OCP Hardware Management Project Group. Please reach out to the Sub-Project lead if you would like to get involved.

This Sub-Project creates designs and specifications to enable interoperable manageability for OCP rack managers. Deliverables from this project will include:

  • Specification for the interface exposed by the rack manager to the rest of the data center
  • Requirements on the interface between the rack manager and the on-platform components
  • An open-source implementation of the rack manager controller software

Scope

The OpenRMC Sub-Project specifies the manageability capability of the rack management controller (RMC). Its activities include:

  • Specifying the northbound interface for the RMC
  • Specifying the southbound interface requirements for the RMC
  • Overseeing the OCP’s Rack-Manager source repository

Device Manager – Incubation

Device Manager provides a unified method to:

  • Identify and query devices for asset management
  • Monitor early warning signs to help with fault isolation, and take preventive actions
  • Manage software and firmware

This enables the entire network of connected devices (including networking, storage, and server) to be monitored and managed remotely, ensuring their high availability.

This sub-project meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 8:00 am PT.
