OCP AI/ML Physical Infra Workshop 1

The world stands at the cusp of a technological revolution powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The exponential growth in AI computational demands—rising by an estimated factor of four annually for advanced models—requires a radical transformation of data center infrastructure. This challenge cannot be met by traditional system designs, and it presents an unparalleled opportunity for innovation, collaboration, and economic development. Recognizing this, the Open Compute Project (OCP) has launched its Open Systems for AI (OSAI) Strategic Initiative, bringing together a broad community of hyperscalers, technology vendors, and engineers to pioneer open, scalable infrastructure solutions. Data center Physical Infrastructure refers to the essential foundation that supports the advanced AI Clusters supporting AI workloads. This includes the physical facilities, power distribution, cooling systems, and the sustainability practices that ensure efficient operation.

As a follow up to OCP’s OPEN SYSTEMS FOR AI: BLUEPRINT FOR SCALABLE INFRASTRUCTURE VERSION 1.0.0 white paper, we plan to organize a series of workshops to advance our understanding of Data center Physical Infrastructure. The intention is to bring together various practitioners to share their knowledge and vision and allow for a melding of forward thinking in this space. On April 9, 2025 we held a virtual workshop, specifically, to focus on hyperscale Cloud service providers, GPU accelerator chip/system manufacturers, rack/power/cooling/DC equipment manufacturers, and Third party Colo Service Providers.

The following was the first in this series, held April 9, 2025. This workshop focused on Chip providers, hyperscalers and end users. The next edition will focus on the supply ecosystem and the market. Join the mailing list to stay involved!
