Circularity
Circularity is a Workstream under the OCP Sustainability Project. Its mission is to take a vertical technical-ecosystem approach, rather than a horizontal one, to managing secondary-life equipment, so that complete servers, switches, and other data center components are refurbished and reused in new installations instead of being torn down or sold piecemeal. Paired with interlinked engineering equipment, the approach gives the original data center client full data-analytics capability for decision making. Cascading equipment into secondary-life installations, including immersion-cooled ones, offers a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.

Circularity is a Workstream under the OCP Sustainability Project.
The workstream’s mission is to drive a vertical technical-ecosystem approach, instead of a horizontal one, to managing secondary-life equipment. This shift enables a true circular-economy methodology to be adopted, ensuring that complete servers, switches, and other data center components are refurbished and reused in new environments and installations, rather than torn down or sold piecemeal. This technology ecosystem, combined with a fully interlinked suite of engineering equipment, allows complete data-analytical capabilities to be used by the data center’s original client for effective decision making. The ability to cascade equipment to a full secondary-life installation provides a more sustainable approach; combined with immersion cooling, it offers an even more cost-effective, lower-energy overall solution concept.
Scope
The workstream focuses on:
