The Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation today announced the results of a comprehensive end-user value study, revealing that participation in the OCP Community delivers significant economic, operational, and strategic benefits across the global data center ecosystem.

The study was based on more than 170 industry interviews and 450 survey responses, shows that OCP enables organizations to reduce total cost of ownership by approximately 5% on average, while accelerating infrastructure deployment by up to 15%. The research was conducted by SG Strategy, SG Strategy is a London- and New York-based strategy & analytics consultancy focused on B2B media, technology and events.

Among hyperscale operators, the findings are particularly striking: organizations investing roughly $10 million annually in OCP, in membership, sponsorships and contributions, reported more than $1.5 billion in value creation, representing a 150x return on investment.

“OCP has become a critical platform for co-innovation,” said the report. “It serves as a neutral venue where industry leaders align on shared infrastructure designs, reducing fragmentation and accelerating time-to-market.”

  • Doubling of qualified vendor options, improving supply chain resilience
  • Up to 30% reductions in qualification timelines
  • Increased design reuse across generations, improving efficiency and scalability

In addition, OCP’s collaborative model enables organizations to align around common specifications, reducing duplication and enabling faster adoption of next-generation technologies, particularly in AI-driven infrastructure environments.

Despite these benefits, the study also identified areas for improvement, including the need for clearer ROI measurement frameworks, enhanced testing and validation processes, and stronger support for enterprise adoption.

“OCP’s value is clear,” the report concludes. “The next phase is making that value easier to measure, communicate, and scale across the broader ecosystem.”
