Welcome to the Project Olympus Sub-Group. Charter for this team is to enable the OCP community to further explore, invent, collaborate, enhance, and produce great solutions for customers using Project Olympus modular building blocks. Project Olympus is Microsoft's next generation rack level solution that is open sourced through Open Compute Project. Project Olympus addresses variety of cloud workloads for Microsoft Cloud and was introduced in November 2016 with V1.0 contribution November 2017. Since inception Project Olympus has attracted a large group of partners from compute silicon providers to ODMs, OEMs and component manufacturers and is becoming the de facto open compute standard for cloud workloads.
Project Olympus is a modular system designed for convergence of the industry ecosystem to enable onboarding more hardware more quickly. The systems are designed for the needs of scale-up systems.
Project Olympus Rack System
Project Olympus is built upon a base Rack, 42U or 48U tall, with integrated A/C power distribution and rack-level management.

While, Microsoft is planning Design and Product implementations based on Project Olympus specification, we encourage the community to use as-is, buy/sell as-is, or modify-to-use/sell and to provide feedback on any of these software or hardware Modules.
In response to great interest from the OCP community about Project Olympus contribution, OCP Server Project is initiating a sub-group called “Project Olympus Subgroup” for focused discussions in an open OCP community forum.
The goal of this subgroup is to explore the detail of feature set and design of each Module and how it interoperates with other Modules; provide feedback; streamline high-quality production and distribution of each Module in high volume; and propose enhancement or substitution of a Module to provide new value-add.
Use Project Olympus Wiki to sign up for mailing distribution list, events, meetings, document links, project space, etc.
Mark A. Shaw has graciously agreed to lead this subgroup discussion and facilitate interactive working meetings with electrical, mechanical, power, thermal, firmware, and software experts.
This subgroup may include parties interested in different use cases:
1. Develop solutions based on Project Olympus ingredients as specified
2. Use Project Olympus Motherboard as-is; redesign everything else
3. Use Project Olympus Motherboard and Rack-manager as-is; redesign Blade Chassis, use off-the-shelf PSU, interfaces PCIe to new IO peripherals, use a different Rack
4. Use Project Olympus Rack, PMDU, Motherboard, and PSU as-is; redesign Blade Chassis and PCIe IO interfaces
5. Use Project Olympus Rack, Blade Chassis, and PSU as-is; redesign the motherboard
