IC Elections

Current Phase of Election Process: Nominations


The Open Compute Foundation’s [Board of Directors] charters the Open Compute Projects, appoints the initial Project Committee chairs (PCC) (or project leads) as well as approves the specifications that are accepted into the Open Compute Project (OCP).

The OCP Community requires a standard by which the project communities can govern themselves with oversight from the OCP Foundation and its employees.

Project Leads are elected by the community for a period on 6 (six) months. 7 (seven) Incubation Committee seats will be elected for a term of one year.

No 1 (one) company can have more than 2.5 people in a position of leadership at any one given time and no 1 (one) person can hold more than 1 position of leadership within the community. (Leadership positions are defined as Board Seat, Incubation Committee Seat, Project Lead position)


Project Leads

PCC/Project Leads will be elected for a term of six (6) months.

Incubation Committee

The Chair and Vice Chair positions on the IC will continue to be appointed positions. The OCP Foundation Board will appointed these positions and are excluded from the 2.5 person limit to leadership roles.

The remaining 7 seats will be elected positions for 1 year terms

Who is eligible?

Project Leads

Anyone who is a member of the project can be nominated to be on the election ballet.

To be a member of a project you must create an individual membership profile on the website.


Any representative of a Silver, Gold or Platinum OCP Corporate Member in good standing can nominate someone to be on the IC regardless of the nominees corporate membership status. Anyone can be nominated, but the nominations has to come from a Silver, Gold or Platinum Member. (Exceptions: no more than 2.5 members of any member organization and hold a leadership position at any one time.)

How does nominations work?

When the nomination phase opens up a webform link will be included. Just open the link and answer the questions. The webform will not be available until that phase of the election is open.

Who can vote?

Project Leads

Anyone who is a member of the project along with the OCP Board.

To be considered a member of the project you must create a profile and sign the membership agreement.

You can login using your open ID or by creating a new profile. The email you use on your profile is the one your voting key will be sent to. Please make sure to keep your profile email up to date.

If your organization is already an OCP member then please sign the individual membership agreement and build your profile using your organizational email address.

Your profile must be created one week prior to the election.

To vote in an IC election your company must be a Gold or Platinum Member.

Based on your companies membership level you will be given a number of voting keys per company. Gold members will receive 2 keys; Platinum will receive 3 keys. Names and email address of those individual who can vote must be added to the list one week prior to any election.

Those voting must also create a membership profile. Please note that the company membership takes priority over the individual one.

Special Circumstances

In the event a PCC/Project Lead resigns from their position prior to the end of the term, that individual, if possible should give the Amber Graner the names of two people that would be interested in leading the project in the interim period. The project community will vote on the interim project lead.
