Current Elections

There are no elections taking place at this time. The next scheduled election will in June 2018 for the OCP Project Leaders.

Purpose

The Open Compute Foundation’s [Board of Directors] approves the formation of the Open Compute Projects, reviews the charters for each project and can appoint the initial Project Committee chairs (PCC) also know as Project Leads and the initial Incubation Committee (IC) Representative.

The OCP Community requires a standard by which the project communities can govern themselves with oversight from the OCP Foundation and its employees.

Project Leads and the Incubation Committee Representatives are elected by the community for a period of 2 years.

No one organization can have more than 3 people* in a leadership position at any one given time and no one person can hold more than one leadership position at a time. (Leadership positions are defined as Board Director Seat, Incubation Committee Representative, Project Lead, and the leader of an approved OCP Regional Community)

  • these seats are dependent on membership level some restrictions apply.

Terms

Project Leads

PCC/Project Leads will be elected for a term of (2) years.

Current Term is June 2016 to June 2018.

Incubation Committee

The Chair and Vice Chair positions on the IC will continue to be appointed positions. The OCP Foundation Board will appoint these positions and are excluded from leadership limits.

The remaining Incubation Committee Representative seats will be elected positions for two (2) year terms.

An exception was the 2014 - 2017 term. This was a three (3) year term and an exception to the two (2) year term limits.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible to serve as a project lead or IC representative the following must apply:

Project Leads

All OCP Tiered Members are eligible to become an OCP Project Lead*.

  • some limitations apply

IC

Individual must belong to a Silver, Gold or Platinum Tiered Member*.

  • some limitations apply

Limitations

  • Individual Members can hold no more than 1 leadership position at any given point in time.
  • Silver Members can hold no more than 1 leadership position at any given point in time.
  • Gold Members can hold no more than 2 leadership positions at any given point in time.
  • Platinum Members can hold no more than 3 leadership positions at any given point in time.
  • No one person can hold more than one leadership position at any given point in time regardless of membership level.
  • Organizations can only hold one seat at a time on each individual governing body at a time
  • Organizations who can hold more than one leadership positions, these positions need to be split across the governing bodies.

(Example - Platinum members with 3 positions could potentially have someone on the Board, The IC, and as a Project Lead, but could not have 2 positions on any one governing body. The only exception would be for a project lead position and in that case 2 members of an organization could be project leads but would have to co-lead with an individual of a qualifying member organization. In this case a project co-lead counts as .5 persons, but 2 people from the same organization can not lead a project together or lead 2 of the project teams individually)

Please note:

Leadership position is defined as-Project Lead, Incubation Committee Representative (excludes Chair and Vice Chair), Board of Directors and leaders of approved Regional OCP Communities Leadership positions are not appointed or given to individuals or organizations based on their membership level, but must go through the nomination and election process. The limitations for the number of leaders per organization is based on membership levels.

Nominations

Typically the nomination phase opens 6 weeks prior to the expiration of term.

A blog post will be published on the OCP Website when the nomination phase opens. In that post a webform link will be included. Just open the link and answer the questions. The webform will not be available until that phase of the election is open.

Voting

Project Leads

To vote for a project lead individuals must be an OCP Member and active in the OCP project they wish to cast a vote for a nominee of. (Example - if you wanted to vote for a networking project lead but were only active in the C&I project you would not be allowed to vote for the networking project lead. Activity is based on the OCP Mailing List Participation) Foundation Employees and OCP Board of Directors are also eligible to vote for the Project Leads.

Individual Membership

To be considered an OCP Individual member you must create a profile on the OCP Website and sign the individual membership agreement.

Go to the OCP Website and login using your open ID or by creating a new profile. The email you use on your profile is the one your voting key will be sent to. Please make sure to keep your profile email up to date.

Tiered Membership

If your organization is already an OCP Tiered member then please follow the instructions for individual membership and build your profile using your organizational email address. IMPORTANT - Your organizational Tiered Membership agreement will take precedence over the individual one. This profile is only used to send your voting key.

Your profile must be created one week prior to the election.

To create your profile go to: http://www.opencompute.org//Security/login?BackURL=/account/

Exceptions: To be fair to all organizations and individuals no one organization can cast more than 10% of the total vote.

IC

To vote in an IC election an organization must be a Silver, Gold or Platinum Member.

Based on the organization's tiered membership level it will be given a set number of voting keys. The members organization will determine which individuals the keys will be sent to. The Foundation will reach out to the point of contact listed on its membership agreement to confirm who will be sent the voting keys. Silver members will receive 1 key; Gold members will receive 2 keys; Platinum members will receive 3 keys.

More information on the voting process for the IC can be found at: http://www.opencompute.org/wiki/Governance/ICVoting

Special Circumstances

If an OCP project lead (PL) or IC representative (ICR) resigns from their position prior to the end of the term or if they can no longer fulfill their duties then organization that the PL or ICR belongs to can put a name or names forward to replace the person who is stepping down. The IC will then vote to accept this replacement or not. If the IC accepts the replacement or picks the replacement from a group of names put forward them there will be no special election and the replace will hold the seat for no more than one (1) year or until the next election whichever is shorter. If the IC rejects the replacement then a special election will be called. Whomever wins the special election, should one be initiated, will hold the position until the next election.

There are no current special elections underway.
